Red Sox Starter Brayan Bello Offers Timeline For Boston Return

Brayan Bello will start the season on the 15-day injured list, but the Boston Red Sox starter doesn’t expect to be on the sideline for too long.

Bello experienced shoulder soreness at the beginning of spring training, but the 25-year-old threw a live batting practice Monday. That should be the first step toward a return.

“By next week I should be up to four or five innings,” Bello said through translator Daveson Perez on Tuesday at JetBlue Park, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “There’s a plan in place. So hopefully, by the first or second week of April I’ll be back in.”

Boston’s Grapefruit League play ends Sunday. However, Bello will remain in Fort Myers, Fla., during the team’s road trip to open the 2025 MLB season.

“I’m going to stay back here, pitch in the backfields, work my way up — three, four, five innings,” Bello said. “I’m not going to be with the team on the road but God willing I’ll be able to be with the team in Boston.”

Despite the early season setback, Bello’s confidence has not waned, and he still maintains his lofty goals for himself and the Red Sox.
