Patriots Reportedly Were ‘Wary’ Of Adding Top Wideouts For This Reason
The Patriots apparently felt they were helping Drake Maye by not adding a premier wide receiver.
… Wait, what?
“The Patriots were exceedingly wary of the negative impact a demanding veteran wideout could have on Maye,” NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran wrote Tuesday. “As a result, they weren’t in the game on talented guys like DK Metcalf and Davante Adams.”

The Seattle Seahawks traded Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second-round pick. Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams after he was released by the New York Jets.
Curran’s insights surfaced after Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi reported the Patriots “liked (Metcalf), but didn’t love him.” The ensuing contract Metcalf landed from the Steelers, the second-round trade cost as well as “questions about how Metcalf would fit into their locker room” all played a role, Giardi wrote.
Curran mentioned how the Patriots “loved” Chris Godwin, and it was reported they offered Godwin more than what he received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
