River Plate want to sign highly-rated Tottenham 21-year-old this summer
Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz is having a very difficult time out on loan, but one club from his home country is now plotting a move to poach him from the North London side this summer.
Veliz arrived at Tottenham in 2023 with a big reputation, being considered one of the best young talents in Argentine football after exploding onto the scene at Rosario Central.
However, the 21-year-old’s career in Europe has not gone the way he would have hoped, with the youngster struggling for opportunities at Spurs and also failing to convince during his two loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol.
It perhaps came as a surprise to some that Tottenham decided against recalling the centre-forward in the January window as he continues to struggle to get starts under his belt at Espanyol.
River Plate boss has identified Alejo Veliz as his ideal target
A report from River Noticias has now claimed that River Plate are ready to offer the Tottenham Hotspur striker a route back to his home country in the summer.
The outlet states that the Argentine giants’ manager, Marcelo Gallardo, is a big fan of the young forward and has told the club’s hierarchy to explore a move for him.
The publication asserts that Gallardo views Veliz as the ideal strike partner for Sebastian Driussi, and wants to bring the Spurs youngster through the door ahead of his side’s Club World Cup campaign in the summer.
Will Tottenham consider cutting their losses on Veliz?
Things have not worked for Veliz in Europe and Spurs may be tempted to cut their losses on the player if they do receive a decent offer this summer.
However, Tottenham will certainly not be desperate to get rid of the striker and may want to give him one more chance out on loan to find his feet.
A loan move to the Championship might be the ideal solution for Veliz in the summer as it will give the striker a chance to play regularly and adapt to the intensity of English football.
