Heung-min Son told he would not get into Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham team
Jermain Defoe was asked to do a combined eleven between the 2010/11 Tottenham team he was part of and the current side, with the former Spurs striker making some rather controversial calls.
The 2010-11 season is remembered fondly by Tottenham Hotspur fans as the club had their first foray into the Champions League that campaign, making it all the way until the quarterfinal, where they were eliminated by Real Madrid.
This season has been one to forget for Spurs fans, but that is not to say that there are not some excellent players at the club, with the Lilywhites boasting of the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski in their squad.
However, Jermain Defoe believes that the team he was part of is better in almost every part of the pitch than the current Spurs side.
Jermain Defoe chooses Aaron Lennon over Heung-min Son
In a segment for ESPN UK, Defoe was asked to directly compare the two starting elevens by pitting players against one another in each position.
Unsurprisingly, the former Tottenham man picked his own teammates in most positions. In fact, Micky van de Ven is the only player from the current Spurs side who made it into Defoe’s combined eleven.
Most controversially, the 42-year-old picked Aaron Lennon in his side over current Spurs captain Heung-min Son.
Son would make any modern-day Tottenham XI
One can understand that Defoe is biased towards the players he played with and it is difficult to argue with most of his selections here.
However, while most Tottenham fans absolutely adore Aaron Lennon, almost no one would have the English winger over Son, who will go down as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
