'Beest': Joshua Zirkzee praises 8/10 United star who won six duels vs Leicester City

Manchester United picked up their 10th win of the Premier League campaign against Leicester City on the road on Sunday.

The Red Devils went into the game as firm favourites and deservedly took the lead before the half-time interval.

The Foxes were the better side after the restart, but United capitalised on their defensive woes to seal a 3-0 triumph.

Bruno Fernandes was once again the man of the match with two assists and a sublime goal towards the end.

However, Matthijs de Ligt had an equally good game in the heart of the defence for the Red Devils.

The Netherlands international was awkward with his passing but made up for it with a solid defensive showing.

De Ligt won an impressive six duels yesterday and had 11 successful defensive actions from 60 touches, as per Fotmob.

The Dutchman’s most notable impact came in the 75th minute. He saved Victor Lindelof’s blushes with a stupendous block.

Lindelof was outmuscled by 38-year-old Jamie Vardy before his pass for Facundo Buonanotte.

The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee looked destined to find the net until De Ligt’s sliding challenge.

The former Bayern Munich man had a superb outing and received an 8/10 rating from Manchester Evening News.

Shortly after the 3-0 win, De Ligt posted on Instagram. Joshua Zirkzee was undoubtedly pleased with his compatriot.

The striker described De Ligt as a ‘Beest’ in Dutch, which translates to ‘Beast’ in English.

De Ligt had a slow start to his United career but has become very consistent with his performances over recent months.

The Red Devils need him to continue his brilliant form after the international break, as there is still plenty to play for.

United are 13th in the league, and the focus should be on finishing as high as possible.

The club also have a crucial Europa League quarter-final against Lyon next month.

The Red Devils must win the competition to play European and Champions League football next term.
