Tottenham warned the Fulham pitch is too small for Ange-ball on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson has offered his verdict on how Tottenham Hotspur will perform against Fulham on Sunday and he has one concern which could help decide the winning team.
Tottenham Hotspur have faced many trials and tribulations during the current Premier League season.
Some recent performances have offered glimmers of hope that their worst days are behind them, however, Spurs have failed to achieve a victory in their past two league matches, despite having a home advantage.
It may therefore be an encouragement that Spurs are playing away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend. Better still, they are up against a Fulham side who have picked up fewer points at Craven Cottage than they have as the travelling team.
Spurs may struggle, though, as they have failed to secure a win at Fulham’s ground in the two matches since Ange Postecoglou was appointed as manager. The first meeting was decided by a penalty shootout, while the second was nothing short of total humiliation as Tottenham suffered a 3-0 defeat.
Mark Lawrenson predicts Fulham to defeat Tottenham
Postecoglou’s record at the oldest football stadium in London is concerning. Mark Lawrenson has suggested the size of Fulham’s pitch is why Spurs struggle to perform there.
The playing field’s length is the same as the former pitch at White Hart Lane, but measures slightly less in width, whereas the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is much larger.
Making his prediction on Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: “Fulham are doing great and I think they’ll win this.
“I think that Craven Cottage pitch is too small for Tottenham to play how they want to and, obviously, Fulham will know exactly what they’re doing on home soil.”
Lawrenson’s prediction: Fulham 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs have a good goal scoring record in the Premier League
Lawrenson has predicted Spurs to be denied a league away goal for the first time since Boxing Day, when they lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest.
This is a bold prediction considering some recent displays, including Tottenham’s 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich in their most recent away fixture and a two-goal win over Brentford before that.
However, Spurs were denied by Manchester City in late February, despite coming close to turning the game around in the second half. After their 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, though, they should be confident in front of goal, especially with the likes of Dominic Solanke and top scorers Brennan Johnson and James Maddison available for selection.
