Tottenham senior players told to learn important lesson from Archie Gray

0 8

Ian Wright has claimed that Archie Gray can serve as an example to other players at Tottenham and across the Premier League, with the pundit convinced that the Lilywhites have a gem on their hands.

The story of Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been one of extreme disruption, with Ange Postecoglou having to deal with major injuries right the way through the season.

As a result, the Australian has had to turn to many of his younger players, with some of them standing up and repaying the faith that their manager has shown in them.

Ian Wright has been particularly impressed with the way one 19-year-old Tottenham man has coped with the challenging environment and the added pressure at N17 this season.

Ian Wright believes Archie Gray will grow from Tottenham challenges

Archie Gray has ended up playing a lot more than he would have expected to in his first season at the Premier League level, and he has been up to the challenge.

The Leeds academy graduate has surprised everyone with the way he has thrived at centre-back in the absence of senior players, and Wright is in awe of how the youngster has taken every problem in his stride.

The former Arsenal man said on Wrighty’s House podcast about Gray: “But this is what I’m saying, he has to just, he has to play for, he’s playing for himself.

“Obviously, he’s trying to play in a chaotic side and we notice him. That’s what you do. You do that. If more players started to do that, they might be doing better than they’re doing at the moment.

“But hats off to Archie Gray. You know what I mean? We haven’t seen anywhere near the best of him, but you know what that will have done for him in playing at this time, under Ange at this time at Tottenham, it’s going to give him an unbelievable amount of confidence going forward. Because I don’t think that in his career, it will ever be as chaotic as this again at this stage for an 18.”

There is one major silver-lining to Spurs injury crisis

While Spurs’ injury problems have undoubtedly made Postecoglou’s job nearly impossible, especially from around November to the start of this month, they have had a major silver lining.

The likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have got much more minutes than they would otherwise have, and they have been exposed to some high-pressure situations very early on in their career.

That will undoubtedly accelerate the pair’s development, and Spurs may find themselves with two world-class players on their hands within the next couple of years.
