Brandon Carlo Admits To Being ‘Wrong’ About This After Trade
For a moment late Friday afternoon, Brandon Carlo thought he was going to finish the 2024-25 NHL season with the Bruins.
As The Athletic’s Joshua Kloke outlined in a column published Saturday, Carlo was on the phone with his wife in the lead-up to the NHL trade deadline. The 3 p.m. ET benchmark was mere minutes away and the veteran defenseman hadn’t heard from Don Sweeney and company, so Carlo was under the impression he wasn’t bound for a trade.
“I remember making a comment that, ‘Maybe after 3 o’clock, I don’t know if they can even call me anymore,'” Carlo told reporters, per Kloke. “I was wrong there, for sure.”
The Bruins did, indeed, beat the deadline and traded Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 28-year-old was one of multiple household names traded by Boston to playoff contenders, as he was joined by Brad Marchand (Florida Panthers), Charlie Coyle (Colorado Avalanche) and Trent Frederic (Edmonton Oilers).
As fate would have it, the Colorado native’s first game with Toronto was Saturday night against Coyle and the Avs, who claimed a 7-4 win at Ball Arena. Carlo, who is under contract through the 2026-27 campaign, likely won’t face the Bruins until next season.
