Predicted Tottenham XI to face Bournemouth – Cristian Romero in and Lucas Bergvall out
Tottenham Hotspur are set to welcome AFC Bournemouth to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their Premier League weekend clash on Sunday afternoon. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Following back-to-back defeats, Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to return to winning ways on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou’s side has struggled for form in the League this campaign, and with a crucial second leg in Europe on the horizon, they need a strong performance.
Standing in their way is Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, a side that edged a 1-0 win the last time these two met. Spurs will be eyeing revenge, but the Cherries have their own ambitions, looking to complete the double over their London opponents.
Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to take on the Cherries.
Predicted Tottenham XI to face Bournemouth in the Premier League
Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: Since his return from injury, Vicario has started every game and has looked as composed as ever. His saves were crucial in the last outing against AZ, and Spurs will need another solid performance from him against Bournemouth.
Right-back – Pedro Porro: Porro was given a rare rest against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, though he came off the bench late on, he had little impact. He remains Tottenham’s best right-back, so he is expected to start on Sunday.
Centre-back – Cristian Romero: There is hope that either Romero or Van de Ven could return this weekend. Ange Postecoglou has revealed the strange reason why he did not risk his star defenders against AZ. Since they are fit, they could return to the defence. Romero is the best bet, given the Argentine centre-back’s recent national team call-up.
Centre-back – Kevin Danso: Danso has been solid since his move to Tottenham. He is expected to retain his spot in the starting XI.
Left-back – Djed Spence: Spence needs to start. Rotation is unnecessary this weekend—play the best available players and get them into rhythm ahead of the second leg. Spence is among the best in this squad, so he should be in from the off.
Pivot midfielder – Yves Bissouma: The midfield needs freshening up after a non-existent showing against AZ. Bergvall has played a lot more in recent weeks, so giving him a breather before the return leg would be wise.
Central midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: With Bentancur suspended for the return leg against AZ, he has no midweek commitments. That means he should keep his place in midfield on Sunday.
Central midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr: Dejan Kulusevski’s absence is a big blow, while Maddison looked completely off it against Alkmaar. He barely got involved, and with eight days of rest before that game, fatigue is not an excuse. If Postecoglou wants to shake things up, Sarr needs to start.
Left midfielder – Heung-min Son: Sonny was far from his best on Thursday, and there is a strong argument for Odobert to start ahead of him. If the youngster gets the nod, there should be no complaints. However, given Son’s status as captain and his return of ten goals and ten assists in all competitions, he is likely to retain his place.
Striker – Mathys Tel: Tel has struggled to lead the line, and to make matters worse, it looks like Solanke has picked up a knock. With Richarlison still sidelined, the young Frenchman is expected to continue up front.
Right midfielder – Brennan Johnson: Johnson has been one of Tottenham’s brighter sparks in front of goal. With Kulusevski out injured, he remains the only natural right winger available. Expect him to start on Sunday.
