New Report Surfaces Citing Patriots’ Approach To NFL Free Agency
The Patriots are expected to take an aggressive approach in free agency.
Did you already know that?
Yes, of course you did, because almost every offseason report regarding New England has stated something to that effect. Mike Vrabel, Eliot Wolf and Ryan Cowden want to address their primary needs in free agency, which will then allow them to take the best players available during the draft.
The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan provided a bit more context than that, though, laying out exactly what the plan is expected to be at One Patriot Place.
“Overall, the Patriots are taking a trenches-first approach to free agency, with cornerback, wide receiver and linebacker close behind,” Kyed and Callahan wrote. “Their plan is to come heavy on Day 1 by extending their best offers to their top targets, ideally a left tackle, receiver, defensive lineman and defensive playmakers in the back seven. Unlike past offseasons, the Patriots won’t hesitate to sign a player if a recent draft pick plays the same position.”
The Patriots are expected to spend big money, which could lead to huge contracts, but at the end of the day, players need to be willing to sign. New England just intends on making it difficult not to.
