Tottenham emerge as frontrunners to sign Eberechi Eze this summer

0 9

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer, according to the latest reports. With interest from other clubs, Spurs’ chances could be bolstered by the player’s preference to remain in London.

Tottenham Hotspur fans are no strangers to transfer links with Eberechi Eze. Since his arrival in the Premier League, the Crystal Palace attacker has consistently been on Spurs’ radar.

The Lilywhites have monitored his progress closely, with reports over the months indicating the club’s keen interest.

Recently, it was revealed that Ange Postecoglou sees the Eagles’ playmaker as a top target for the summer window and that he views Eze as a potential long-term successor to Heung-min Son.

Now, Ben Jacobs, speaking on Market Madness, has confirmed that Tottenham’s interest in Eze is serious, with a move to north London firmly on the table.

“Yeah, I have a few little things to tell you about Eberechi Eze. So it is a no for Chelsea, that is the first thing,” Jacobs said.

“I know we referenced that at the beginning of the show. But there are two clubs in particular to watch: Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. And I can add a third outside of the Premier League, which is Napoli.

“And right now, of those three, Tottenham are the most concrete. And Eberechi Eze is very open, if not, it would be his preference to stay in London. So that could give Spurs a little bit of an advantage.

“I do not think it will be a complete deal-breaker, but he likes the idea of leaving Palace while still being able to stay in London. And that could open the door for Tottenham. Now, this summer, there is a release clause at £68 million, which will come back into force.”

What Eze would bring to Spurs under Postecoglou?

Eberechi Eze is undoubtedly a player who would be a valuable addition to any squad. His versatility would offer Spurs tactical flexibility, effectively providing Postecoglou with the equivalent of signing two players in one.

However, this season has been more challenging for the 26-year-old compared to his previous campaigns. So far, he has registered just two Premier League goals and six assists. Across all competitions, he has managed six goals and seven assists.

In contrast, last season saw Eze hit double figures for goals in the league, netting 11 times while providing four assists.

Nevertheless, his quality and talent are clear to see and if he can rediscover that form, Tottenham will be securing a serious attacking asset.
