Bill Belichick, UNC Reportedly Will Receive Massive Spotlight
Bill Belichick reportedly will be in the HBO spotlight after his former team’s snafu.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, the North Carolina Tar Heels football program will be featured on “Hard Knocks: Offseason.” NFL Films could not find another NFL team to take the spotlight after Joe Schoen’s pie-in-the-face comments in the series debut.
The New York Giants were featured on the first season of “Hard Knocks: Offseason.” The series promised an inside look at an NFL organization and how team-building works behind the scenes. It delivered on the premise, but it backfired on the G-Men.
Some of the more viral moments from the series came from John Mara, Schoen and other executives debating whether they should re-sign Saquon Barkley. The Giants general manager and other members of the organization made unflattering comments that blew up in their faces when Barkley went on to have an MVP-caliber season with the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The move still would have looked bad for New York, but the fact that discussions of the Giants talking themselves out of one of the best running backs in the NFL were public made it even worse.
With that disaster of an offseason, it’s only natural teams would want to shy away from revealing their process; teams already are shying away from taping traditional “Hard Knocks.”
But that left the spotlight for Belichick as he gets to showcase his process in turning around UNC in his first stint as a college football coach. Fans surely also will see general manager Michael Lombardi along for the ride and possible cameos from Belichick’s girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
