Tottenham fans will be over the moon to see the training footage that the club have just released, which shows Cristian Romero back involved in the drills with his teammates for the first time in months.
We have not seen Cristian Romero in action since Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea back in November, with the more than three-month absence leaving some Spurs fans extremely concerned about the Argentine’s situation.
While Spurs’ issues at the back are not as severe anymore, owing to the arrival of Kevin Danso in January, Ange Postecoglou will want his vice-captain back fit as soon as possible.
It looks like he does not have to wait for long as the Australian stated earlier today that Romero could return in time for the first leg of Tottenham’s Europa League quarterfinal with AZ Alkmaar on March 6.
Cristian Romero is at least doing warm-ups with Tottenham squad
Some Spurs fans got excited when images emerged of Cristian Romero training with Tottenham at Hotspur Way on Monday.
Tottenham have now shared a video on their social media handle of the World Cup winner being involved in the warmup routines with his teammates in training.
This suggests that Romero is now making significant progress, and one can imagine that the centre-back is chomping at the bit to get back onto the pitch, having missed almost four months of football.
Ange Postecoglou is right to take things slow with Romero
Tottenham evidently made a mistake by rushing Romero and Micky van de Ven back too early back in November.
Having done that, they are now understandably being extra cautious to ensure that the pair can slowly build up their fitness so that they are in prime shape when they get back onto the pitch.
Given that the Europa League is now Tottenham’s priority over the next few months, Postecoglou is seemingly keen to ensure that his first-choice centre-backs are ready to go for the upcoming crunch games in the competitions.
