Ex-Red Sox Prospect Thunderously Humbled Dodgers Star Rookie
Kyle Teel quickly rose as an upper-level prospect after the Boston Red Sox selected him with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.
The Red Sox centered him in their headlining offseason deal with the Chicago White Sox to bring frontline starter Garrett Crochet to Boston. Teel hopes 2025 marks his rookie season in the big leagues and he welcomed a fellow “rookie” with a statement swing in spring training Tuesday.
The Red Sox bolstered their rotation this winter, though the Los Angeles Dodgers got even stronger in their rotation with Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki. He entered the year as baseball’s top prospect and took the mound for live batting practice against Chicago hitters.
Teel stepped up first against Sasaki and tee’d off on a fastball for a deep home run on the backfields in Arizona.

The catcher hit 15 home runs across 138 career games in the minor leagues in the Red Sox system. He’ll still look to add power before he finds his way to the show with the White Sox after Chicago put together a historically abysmal campaign in 2024.
Teel enters the season as the No. 2 prospect in the White Sox system and the No. 32 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline.
