NHL Broadcaster Claims Bruins Already Have Playoff Roster

With just over a week until the March 7 NHL trade deadline, national broadcaster and Stanley Cup champion Eddie Olczyk doesn’t think the Boston Bruins need to change that much to their roster

Olczyk joined Kasey Hudson on NESN’s “The Hockey Hub” podcast to discuss why the Bruins have the opportunity to not only make the playoffs but go on a deep run once they are in.

“I do feel like the Bruins have that type of roster to make the playoffs,” Olczyk said. “And when they are completely healthy, they do become a dangerous team. They do have very good goaltending in Jeremy Swayman. … Once you get in, you get a hot goaltender, you just never know what the hell can happen in the NHL playoffs.”

The Bruins are in a dogfight in the Eastern Conference battling for a playoff spot with the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers.

Olczyk added that the Bruins have to adopt a next-man-up mentality with Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm out of the lineup.

“You could argue your two top defensemen are out of the lineup, but nobody’s gonna feel sorry for you,” he said. “You got to be able to find ways to win games a little bit differently when you don’t have your best players in the lineup, and sometimes it isn’t pretty, but at the end of the day, every point matters. Doesn’t matter who you’re playing and give yourself a chance.”

To hear more from Olczyk you can listen to “The Hockey Hub” on Spotify or YouTube.
