Tottenham star admits his childhood dream came true at Ipswich on Saturday

0 5

Djed Spence has reacted very emotionally after scoring his first Premier League goal in Tottenham’s thumping 4-1 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou says he deliberately made it tough for Spence to break into the side earlier in the season in order to test his hunger, praising the full-back for the way he has passed the test.

The 24-year-old is now reaping the rewards of his hard work and positive attitude as he is now one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet and is continuing to get better and better with each game.

The Englishman started at right-back at Portman Road Stadium before moving to left-back in the latter stages of the game after Destiny Udogie was replaced by Pedro Porro, delivering another flawless performance both defensively and going forward.

Spence reacts after getting on the scoresheet

Spence was involved with some lovely interplay down the Tottenham left alongside James Maddison and Wilson Odobert in the second half, scoring his side’s all-important third goal to give them some breathing space.

The goal came after Maddison showed some quick feet to weave past two defenders before laying the ball onto the former Middlesbrough man, whose deflected strike sailed into the back of the net.

Spence has taken to social media to admit that scoring a goal in the Premier League is something he has dreamed of since he was a kid.

How far can Djed Spence go at Tottenham Hotspur?

Spence’s Spurs resurgence has shades of Gareth Bale, who also had a tough start to life at the North London club before exploding onto the big stage a couple of years after his move to the club.

While Spence is not blessed with the Welshman’s ball-striking ability and is thus unlikely to be moved further forward, Postecoglou would not be setting a limit on how far the defender can go.

The Englishman certainly possess all the attributes to evolve into one of the best full-backs/wing-backs in world football.
