Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy Posts Update Ahead Of USA-Canada Final
Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy appears to be out of the hospital.
The 27-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday and posted a picture of himself in a car with the caption, “Free as a bird.” The song “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd could be seen on the car dashboard, and it appeared McAvoy had been discharged from Massachusetts General Brigham.
McAvoy sustained an injury to his right shoulder acromioclavicular during the United States’ matchup against Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off. After undergoing treatment from Team USA’s medical staff, the blueliner was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder and was admitted to Mass. General Brigham on Tuesday.
Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed to reporters Thursday that McAvoy would not suit up in the championship game against Canada at TD Garden. The star defenseman will root for his team while watching from afar.
Jeremy Swayman and Brad Marchand revealed they checked up on their Bruins teammate and confirmed he was in good spirits. There is no update on when he could return to game action.
