Richard Keys provides significant Tottenham Hotspur takeover update
Richards Keys has revealed that he heard a significant development over a potential Qatari takeover of Tottenham Hotspur while also sending a message to Daniel Levy about selling the club.
We saw a huge protest from Tottenham fans ahead of the clash against Manchester United on Sunday, with thousands of supporters calling for the current owners to leave.
Those supporters may soon get their wish as it was reported last week that a group of private investors from Qatar are eyeing a full buyout of Tottenham.
However, the one thing that might please some fans is that it was explained that the prospective new owners are willing to offer Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy a long-term contract and allow him to continue running the club.
Former striker Jermain Defoe admitted Daniel Levy will have been hurt by the protests seen outside the stadium ahead of the 1-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend.
Richard Keys reveals what he has heard about Qatari Tottenham takeover
Richard Keys, who works for Qatari media outlet beIN SPORTS, has now provided some inside scoop on his understanding of a potential Tottenham takeover.
The TV former Sky presenter revealed that he has spoken to someone who thinks that the deal is as good as done, although he himself expressed doubt if that was the case.
Keys also warned Daniel Levy not to play hardball, explaining that the investors could turn their attention to other footballing takeover opportunities if he decides to dig in his heels.
He wrote within his personal blog: “Oh – you’ll be interested to hear that I was in the company of someone this weekend that reckons a deal to buy Spurs is done. I don’t think it is, but I’m pretty sure conversations have been taking place.
“If so, I’d say this to Daniel Levy. Don’t play hardball Daniel – you might regret it. I’m also hearing the owners of one of the top four clubs could be ready to sell. They’re arguably a better proposition for a buyer and would tempt a bid before Spurs.”
Daniel Levy may have a decision to make over Tottenham ownership
Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board know that they are now sitting on a very attractive asset, given the multiple revenue streams that they have built at Spurs outside of football with music concerts, NFL and other events being regularly held within Tottenham Hotspur Stadium throughout the year.
The Tottenham supremo is unlikely to be tempted into a quick sale and will likely hold out for the valuation that the club have in mind.
This might be an attempt by the Qatari investors to put pressure on the Spurs chairman by leaking some news to the media, but one would not expect that to make much of a difference.
Levy will likely be in attendance when Tottenham travel to Ipswich Town this weekend looking to climb the Premier League table and take revenge on the defeat they suffered against the Tractor Boys earlier this season.
