Leeds formulate plan to beat Tottenham to creative full-back
Leeds United are ready to push ahead with a move for a Tottenham defensive target should they secure promotion to the top flight, according to a new report.
We are still four months away from the opening of the summer transfer window, but speculation has already started flying about Tottenham’s top transfer targets ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Last week, it was explained that Ange Postecoglou‘s men are keen on enforcing in the full-back areas and may turn to one former Spurs man.
The player in question is Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, whose deal at St Mary’s runs out this June, with Tottenham keen to sign Walker-Peters on a free transfer.
Tottenham expected to face competition for Kyle Walker-Peters
A fresh report from TEAMtalk has now claimed that Leeds have set their sights on Walker-Peters should they secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The report says that the Championship table-toppers have identified the Saints man as someone who could strengthen their squad ahead of their potential return to top-flight.
It is explained that Daniel Farke’s men showed interest in the 27-year-old in January but were put off by Southampton’s asking price of £7m.
The outlet adds that the England international looks set for an exit from St Mary’s, with Everton and Leicester City also joining the queue of clubs ready to pounce on the player.
Can Tottenham convince Kyle Walker-Peters to move to N17?
Walker-Peters can operate in both full-back areas, and given his energy and his technical quality, one can understand why Postecoglou would want to add him to the Tottenham first team squad.
The Southampton man would have a soft spot for Spurs, having spent so long in the club’s academy and breaking into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, one would expect him to make a decision that is best for his career, and he might not be keen on returning to Tottenham unless he receives guarantees of regular game time, which Postecoglou would not be in a position to offer.
