Tottenham player branded ‘a failure’ after latest loan showing
One young Tottenham forward is continuing to struggle out on loan, and he is now being completely written off by the press after his latest showing over the weekend.
Spurs opted against re-calling forward in January
Veliz‘s loan spell at Espanyol has not gone according to plan, with the striker not having found the back of the net for the club since back in October.
The Argentine has struggled for game time over recent months, being primarily used as an understudy to Spain under-21 international Roberto Fernandez.
It was widely reported in the Spanish press that Spurs may recall the forward in January and that Espanyol would be happy to send him back and open up more room in their wage bill. However, to some people’s surprise, the former Rosaria Central man did not return to North London.
Tottenham starlet Alejo Veliz branded a failure
The on-loan Tottenham man came on at half-time away at Real Sociedad on Sunday and got 45 minutes under his belt, but he was not able to prevent his side from falling to a 2-0 defeat.
La Grada point out that Veliz missed a big chance to put his side in front at the Reale Arena and they have labelled him a ‘failure’ on the back of his latest showing
They point out that the 21-year-old ‘fought for many aerial balls’ in the encounter, which is one of his strengths, but it is clear that things are simply not working for the youngster at the newly promoted side.
Should Tottenham have recalled Alejo Veliz?
Many might have expected Tottenham to recall Veliz in January and send him on loan elsewhere, potentially to a Championship side.
Spurs would have likely had a conversation with the striker about a potential recall and one presumes that he would have wanted to continue at Espanyol.
The Argentine might come to regret that decision if he continues warming the bench for the next few months.
It is worth pointing out that he is playing in a side which has struggled to create chances all season, with Espanyol having scored just 22 goals in their 23 league games so far.
