Red Sox Know What Regaining Fenway Park ‘Advantage’ Will Take

The Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and New England Patriots fans can be absolutely deafening at Fenway Park, TD Garden and Gillette Stadium.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox, the Fenway faithful has been overrun by opposing teams’ fans in the last couple of seasons because the team has been below .500 at home.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and manager Alex Cora know exactly how to regain the “fan” advantage at Fenway Park over their opponents. The solution is simple: win more baseball games.

“I would argue that winning is entertainment,” Breslow told reporters Tuesday, per team-provided video. “So if we are anchored to putting a team on the field that is capable of winning, that is capable of making it to the postseason, then that is an entertaining brand of baseball.

“I would also say, just given kind of the construction of our roster, we’ve got athleticism and speed. I think we saw that with our three outfielders last year. … I do think we will play an exciting, athletic brand of baseball. If I get too caught up in the entertainment side, I think we could lose sight of what we are here to do, which is win baseball games.”

Breslow and Cora have also played in Boston, so they know exactly how powerful the Red Sox fans can be when the team is performing well.

“We play in a city where the appetite for (championship) rings is real. They love it,” Cora told reports ahead of spring training, per team-provided video. “I follow sports in our city. Shoot, (…) is upset with the Celtics because they’re losing games in general. I understand how they feel.”

Hopefully, the Red Sox can give the fans a reason to rock Fenway this season.
