0 2

U21 Professional Development League 2

Team: Salamon, Santos, Leahy, Manufor, McDowell, Dixon-Bonner, Bennie, Talla, Vaughan, Murphy, Sutton

Subs: Halliday, Putman, Neill, Coomes, Ashamu

Kevin Nugent’s side included a number of first-team players.

As the temperature hovered around the freezing mark, it was the visitors who went close to opening the scoring on two minutes.

Jaiden Celestine-Charles’ initial effort was kept out and Adam Mayor’s follow-up came off the upright.

QPR’s first attempt on target was provided by Elijah Dixon-Bonner, but his shot lacked power.

With intermittent loud bangs (?) in the distance, Dixon-Bonner’s strike was deflected comfortably into Liam Roberts’ gloves.

At the other end, Matteo Salamon did well to grab a low cross in the six-yard box whilst under pressure.

The R’s keeper then made a very good save from Frankie Baker’s powerful low-drive.

Rangers had a good goalscoring opportunity after Daniel Bennie had set-up Rohan Vaughan, but the R’s striker’s shot cleared the crossbar.

The Lions took the lead a minute or so before the break, following a foul near to the bye-line. Despite the remonstrations of the R’s players, Mr Breen pointed to the spot. Billy Mitchell stepped up and planted the ball into the bottom corner. Half-time: 0-1.

For the start of the second-half, Paul Furlong brought on Robin Ashamu at the expense of Rohan Vaughan.

Millwall doubled their lead five minutes after the interval following a corner. Captain and centre-back Shaun Hutchinson, was on hand to finish.

The next change came around the hour-mark, which saw Fraser Neill coming on for Elijah Dixon-Bonner.

As the R’s looked to reduce the deficit, Emmerson Sutton cut-in and his goal-bound shot was blocked in the box.

Daniel Bennie was replaced by Jake Coomes on 77 minutes.

Into the closing stages, and Fraser Neill fired over the bar, whilst for the Lions an unmarked Frankie Baker shot wide of the target.

Paul Furlong’s side then travelled to the Robins High Performance Academy to take on Bristol City.
