The struggles of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

After securing a fifth-placed finish in his first season at Tottenham Hotspur, many expected that Ange Postecoglou and his side would build on that in his second season at the helm.

Indeed, it has been disastrous so far, as the Lilywhites have dropped nine places from Postecoglou’s first season League finish.

The Carabao Cup and the FA Cup are now well behind Spurs this campaign as well. They managed to come crashing out of both competitions in the same week.

With results faltering, pressure continues to mount on the Australian manager as criticism and talks about his future continue to swirl across the fanbase.

Spurs fans share their ideal Ange Postecoglou replacements

Following our most recent FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park, we took to social media to ask Spurs fans: “Should Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou? If so, who should they replace him with?”

Fans instantly shared their opinions, however, it was divided as some fans wanted to Aussie to retain his spot in the dugout, while others wanted a new manager to come through the door.

One fan Mdan stated that Postecoglou should not even have lasted this long, he said: “He should’ve been sacked ages ago I would replace him with Iñigo Pérez, Iraola’s close friend and his right-hand man at Rayo, he’s now doing arguably better than Iraola did at Rayo if required I’d give the job to Matt wells until the end of the season and then appoint Pérez”

Another fan, Bob Plane is not even convinced that Levy and co can convince a manager to join the club, he said: “The scary thing is Levy, Lange, Cullen and co couldn’t get Tel into the club without Ange stepping in. So what makes anybody think they’ll be able to convince any decent manager through our door? And the fact they’ve let this drift this far is damming !! Clearly have no plan B !!”

Winci0r3k believes that Ange Postecoglou is still the club’s best shot at winning silverware this season: “No, let him manage the situation that he and the Board put him in. Let him finish the season, and if there is no sign of improvement, sack him and replace him with a proper next manager, not an interim. He could still win us something in Europe.”

Lloyd, simply wants Marco Silva, he said: “Marco Silva for me. I just don’t believe that he wouldn’t come just because he has Fulham fighting to qualify for the Europa League. He could walk into Spurs and already be in the knockout stages. Plays attacking football bud doesn’t neglect the defence. If not him then Frank.”

Michael Cunnane’s response was brief and concise, “Iraola!!!” Billy on the other hand, has his own managerial shortlist, “Yes. I would genuinely take anyone tbh but out of the best available it’s probably Terzic or Xavi. Would be a dream to get one of Poch, Iraola or Nagelsmann.”

Spurs fans want Levy and Co out

While some fans were tossing up different managerial names, the likes of Edin Terzic, Pochettino, Xavi, Iraola and Marco Silva, Gary Ward, instead took a shot at the club’s ownership.

He stated: “It doesn’t matter if we sack him today, tomorrow or at the end of the season. NOTHING at this football club will change while Levy & Enic are there; they lack the ambition on sporting terms to ever truly compete & trust in a management project(s) They need to go over anyone else.”

The Tottenham Hotspur fanbase is not in one voice regarding their managerial candidate, the feeling is that they just want the club to get back to winning games – it does not matter who is in charge, let the club start winning games again.
