Patriots Super Bowl Champ Admits To Being ‘Ticked Off’ By Chiefs
Tom Brady will be happy if the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but the same can’t be said for all of his former New England Patriots teammates.
As it stands, the most impressive dynasty in NFL history belongs to the Patriots, who won three Super Bowls in a span of five years or less twice this century. But some might knock New England down a peg if Patrick Mahomes and company come out on top at Caesars Superdome, as it would mark a third straight Lombardi Trophy.
A three-peat narrowly evaded the Patriots twice in the Brady-Bill Belichick era. Thus, former New England linebacker Ted Johnson can’t help but resent Kansas City a bit.
“I’m mad at myself, because I see it as a fan,” Johnson recently told MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “I’m ticked off that the Chiefs are there. It bugs me. It doesn’t sit well with me. I think it’s human nature. And if you’re being honest, it doesn’t feel good to see another team accomplish what you’ve accomplished.
“I can appreciate greatness. I can look back and reflect on it. But right now, in the moment, it’s like errrrrrrrrr.”
Of course, it was Philadelphia that prevented New England from winning three in a row in Phase 2 of the Patriots dynasty. And while Johnson surely hated the Eagles on that Sunday evening in February 2018, he will be pulling for the Birds in the Bayou.
