Important For Patriots Fans To Remember This Deebo Samuel Report

The 49ers reportedly have granted Deebo Samuel permission to find a trade suitor.

Safe to say the Patriots will be among the teams that make contact with the San Francisco veteran receiver. After all, New England reportedly had “trade discussions” centered around Samuel ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft last April.

NFL insider Josina Anderson hinted that discussions stalled because the Patriots and 49ers couldn’t find middle ground on compensation.

At the time, Samuel was entering his age-28 season after he compiled 5,129 yards from scrimmage in his first five NFL seasons (66 games). He was one of the best skill players in the league. He also had two years left on his contract at the time of those conversations.

Things have changed, however. Samuel not only is a year older with one less year on his contract, but he’s also coming off a down season. He was not the same player in 2024, as his 806 yards from scrimmage were his fewest since 2020.

That’s not to say the Patriots shouldn’t stage another pursuit of Samuel. New England obviously needs help at receiver and Samuel, especially on a short-term deal, would make plenty of sense. He’ll almost certainly come at a cheaper cost than last year, as well.
