Travis Kelce Reacts To Dreadful Super Bowl LIX Loss To Eagles
Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce couldn’t point to just a singular thing to blame for Kansas City’s lopsided loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night.
In Kelce’s eyes, all the ingredients were present for the Chiefs to get throttled by the Eagles as they had their chance of a three-peat come to a bitter end with a stinging 40-22 defeat at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
“Couldn’t get it going offensively. I mean, they just got after us in all three phases,” Kelce told reporters, per the Washington Post’s Sam Fortier. “And then on top of that, you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense, dropped passes, not taking advantage of the play call and executing them.
“There’s a lot that goes into it. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”
The game played out like a nightmare for Kansas City’s offense, especially in the first half when the Chiefs mustered only 23 yards of total offense. The Eagles swarmed the Chiefs, sacking Patrick Mahomes six times, which was a career-high for the superstar quarterback.
Kelce did next-to-nothing to help out the Chiefs as his four catches for 39 yards don’t tell the full story. He didn’t record any receptions on two targets in the first half and came up with his first catch with 3:24 left in the third quarter — the Eagles led 34-0 by that point.
It was shocking to see a team with the pedigree of the Chiefs and with winners like Kelce and Mahomes on their side get steamrolled like they did on football’s grandest stage.
So, what was the biggest surprise to Kelce in the immediate aftermath of the Super Bowl defeat?
“That we haven’t played that bad all year,” Kelce said.
