Gosport Borough 1-0 Poole Town – Match Report
Poole Town were pushed aside in a 1-0 defeat to Gosport Borough on the road on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first trip back to Privett Park for management duo Joe Lea and Pat Suraci after departing Gosport for Poole in January.
New signing Jamar Smith made his first start after re-joining the club and Ben Taylor returned between the sticks.
The match got underway with the hosts on top, an effort from ex-Dolphin Cam Murray drifted wide of Taylor’s goal.
Gosport went close to opening the scoring after ten minutes but a fantastic stop from Taylor denied experienced striker Dan Wooden from close range.
The home side thought they had broken the deadlock on the half an hour mark, but the linesman’s flag denied them due to Wooden being in an offside position.
With the half nearing a goalless close, Poole started to grow into the game but were unable to create any clear-cut chances to take the lead.
Lea & Suraci made a double change in the break with Harry Thomas and Antonio Diaz both being introduced.
The second half commenced with chnaces for both sides early on, O’Connell tested the palms of Adam Parkes in goal.
Only moments later, Gosport went narrowly close through Wooden, but his header was somehow kept out by a fantastic stop by Taylor.
Eventually, the deadlock was broken through Nnamdi Nwachuku who’s deflected effort found its way into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
The Dolphins almost equalised on the 80th minute after great work from Smith to cut it back to substitute Ezio Touray but he was unable to find the back of the net.
The match came to an end with the hosts taking all three points leaving Poole in the relegation zone and in need of a win next Saturday as they host Tiverton Town.
