Ex-Patriots Coach Reveals Franchise Legend Is ‘Back’ With Team
The Patriots on Wednesday officially revealed their 2025 coaching staff, which listed Doug Marrone as the offensive line coach.
However, it appears Marrone won’t be working with New England’s O-lineman on his own.
During the latest episode of “The Bill O’Brien Podcast,” former Patriots offensive coordinator and current Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien revealed Dante Scarnecchia has returned to New England in an advisory capacity.
“Dante’s already met with him (Marrone) a few times, which is good,” O’Brien said, as transcribed by SB Nation. “Dante’s back involved with the program, helping out as an advisor and things like that, and that’ll help Doug. Doug will do a great job with Josh (McDaniels).”
Marrone only stands to benefit from Scarnecchia’s help. The Patriots Hall of Famer previously coached in New England for 34 (!) seasons, 19 of which as offensive line coach. The 76-year-old played a big role on five of the Patriots’ six Super Bowl-winning teams in franchise history.
Of course, Marrone and Scarnecchia will only be able to lead a successful O-line if they have the right personnel. But fortunately for those two, one NFL insider predicts the Patriots will be “very active” in free agency.
