Patriots Hall Of Famer Has Surprising Response To Big Rumor
Bill O’Brien is the head coach of Boston College’s football team, but he played the role of NFL insider Wednesday.
On the latest episode of his self-titled podcast, O’Brien revealed Dante Scarnecchia returned to the Patriots as an advisor. According to the former New England offensive coordinator, Scarnecchia’s primary focus was going to assist new offensive line coach Doug Marrone.
Few likely questioned O’Brien’s report, as he and Scarnecchia worked together for five seasons on Bill Belichick’s staff and probably have a close bond. But while appearing on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday, Scarnecchia refuted O’Brien’s remarks.
“It’s not true,” Scarnecchia said.
“GHS” co-host Courtney Cox went on to point out how O’Brien “walked back” his report a bit Thursday morning and explained how Scarnecchia has been “helping out” with the Patriots behind the scenes the last few seasons. The 76-year-old denied having that kind of role as well.
“I have not been helping out behind the scenes,” Scarnecchia said. “I’m not involved over there.”
So, if Scarnecchia’s remarks are true, the onus will be entirely on Marrone to fix a Patriots offensive line that must improve if Drake Maye wants to maximize his potential.
