Could Harry Kane’s understudy help fill the Spurs void?

Tottenham are still trying to fill some of the void left by Kane‘s departure 18 months ago, and ironically, to help them do so, they have turned to a player, who is the England captain’s understudy at Bayern Munich.

Spurs secured a loan deal for Tel in the dying hours of the transfer window and will have the option to make the deal permanent for £45.7m in the summer, but only if the 19-year-old gives the green light for the move.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that the teenage forward can hit the ground running at N17, with the newcomer set to make his bow in the all-important second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool.

Harry Kane delighted to see Mathys Tel go to Spurs

Kane knows the young forward’s potential better than most, having seen him at close quarters since his switch to Germany.

The 31-year-old is delighted to see the teenage forward take up the challenge of moving to his former stomping ground, confidently asserting that he will enjoy his time with the North London side.

When asked about Tel’s move to Spurs, Kane told Cleats Club: “It is a great move for both parties. Mathys is a great guy and very hardworking. It is important for him to get regular game time and keep improving to fulfil his potential. It is great for Tottenham to have a young hungry player with loads of talent.

“Hopefully he scores goals and helps push Tottenham as far as possible. I wish him all the best. Hopefully, he has a fantastic time there. I know he will. I am sure the fans will make him feel really welcomed at the club.”

Spurs need Tel to have an instant impact

Young players who come from abroad generally take some time to get adjusted to the pace and intensity of Premier League football.

However, in Tel‘s case, he has been playing at the highest level for two years despite being just 19 years of age.

Given that this is only a four-month loan spell and the fact that Spurs have some huge games coming up over the next month or two, Tottenham supporters will be hoping that the forward proves to be the difference maker immediately.
