Patriots’ Drake Maye Shuts Down Popular Mike Vrabel Theory
New England fans and media members thought there might have been some drama at One Patriot Place after Mike Vrabel was hired, but that apparently wasn’t the case.
Some took issue with Drake Maye not attending Vrabel’s introductory press conference last month. Maye was known to be on vacation when Robert Kraft passed the baton to Vrabel, but it proved not to be an ordinary trip for the rookie quarterback. Maye and his longtime girlfriend got engaged during their getaway.
Nonetheless, Kay Adams wanted to clear the air with Maye about the situation Tuesday when he appeared on her show. Adams asked if the Pro Bowl signal-caller caught any flak from Vrabel or Josh McDaniels for missing the presser.
“I didn’t get anything from them two,” Maye told Adams. “I didn’t. If they did, I would have apologized, obviously. Obviously, be there for them. I think it was a big part of my life. I didn’t really know when they were going to hire the head coach. So, timing was off.”
Even though Maye wasn’t able to attend Vrabel’s introduction, the pair managed to get in touch over the phone. In a recent interview, the 22-year-old expressed how “excited” he was to work with the 2021 Coach of the Year.
The feeling is probably mutual, as Maye showed flashes of superstar potential in Year 1 with the Patriots.
