Care home payments (7 replies)

Anyone have any experience with this scenario? My wife's Grandad had dementia and was deemed a danger to "himself or others", so he was put in to a care home. He passed away last night and we discovered that the council have continued to take payments from their joint account, from about 36k down to 3k. We kept on at her to keep an eye on it and inform them, but we think she now needs to be tested for the same cruel disease, and so with all that was happening she has just put it to the back of her mind. He was 91 years old and she is 90.

Does my wife simply ring the council and see if they play ball (possession is 9/10ths of the law) or go to a solicitor which will cost silly money?
