Drake Maye Got Extra Hint About Bill Belichick-North Carolina Deal
Drake Maye knows as much as anyone about the football operation at North Carolina, including when Bill Belichick signed the dotted line to become the program’s next head coach.
The former New England Patriots head coach parted ways after nearly a quarter-century at the helm and took a gap year in the media for the 2024 season. Belichick then made the jump to the college level with the North Carolina agreement in Decemeber.
Maye played three seasons at North Carolina before the Patriots selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The young passer is still plenty in the know back on campus at Chapel Hill, so the Belichick hire didn’t come as a total shock when the news hit in the media.
Did Maye know before the public that Belichick was taking over?
“Yeah, I had an idea,” Maye told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini during an interview Tuesday.
Maye made the Pro Bowl as an alternate addition as the Patriots locked in the No. 4 overall pick with a 4-13 record in the first season of the post-Belichick regime in New England.
The quarterback offered some Chapel Hill insight for the legendary head coach back in December.
