Tottenham Hotspur’s Radu Dragusin picks up ACL injury

In a season that has already tested the depth of Tottenham’s squad, the club have now confirmed that Radu Dragusin has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The Romanian international sustained the injury during Spurs’ Europa League clash against IF Elfsborg after an awkward landing resulted in a serious twist to his knee.

Tottenham’s official website revealed that Dragusin is set to undergo surgery, although no timeline has been given for his return.

Dragusin’s absence will be keenly felt, as the centre-back has been a vital part of Postecoglou’s squad, particularly during the period when both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were unavailable.

His resilience has been admirable—he has featured in 28 games this season, logging 2,179 minutes despite battling through an ankle knock and requiring stitches to his head at one point.

Tottenham players rally around Radu Dragusin

The news of Dragusin’s injury prompted an outpouring of support from his teammates, who took to social media to express their solidarity with the stricken defender.

James Maddison, currently sidelined with an injury of his own, posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram stories: “Be with you every step of the way brother.”

Tottenham’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, another player currently in the treatment room, echoed those sentiments, writing on his own Instagram story: “Family’s here to support you, brother.”

The 22-year-old defender’s valiant performances this season will be remembered especially as he stepped up when called upon, filling the void left by Romero and van de Ven. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

What this means for Tottenham’s defensive depth

ACL injuries typically require at least six to eight months of recovery time, meaning it is highly unlikely that Dragusin will feature again this season.

This is a major setback for Tottenham, who were already actively searching for defensive reinforcements during the winter transfer window, even after signing Kevin Danso.

The signing of Kevin Danso offered some reassurance, but with Dragusin’s long-term absence, there are legitimate concerns about how the club will cope if further injuries strike.

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and the promising youngster Archie Gray provide options in central defence, yet the risk remains high. If two of these players were to suffer injuries simultaneously, Tottenham could once again find themselves in a precarious situation.
