Dartford Grassroots Youth Football Lead Darren Corley’s monthly round-up of the grassroots side of the club
We’ve seen a lot of good football played in January and there are plenty of highlights.
But the big news for the month is that we have appointed a Kent Youth League Lead coach to oversee recruitment and support all our coaches throughout the Under-13 to Under-16 teams.
Gary Russell has joined the club. He will help with player recruitment and training and he’ll be at Princes Park on a Sunday to help develop those age groups.
He comes with a good track record of developing players in youth football over a long period and we felt we wanted a separate person that could help with parents and players throughout the Kent Youth League teams.
We are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the club!
Meanwhile, we have the Under-16s girls who have made it into the final of one of their cups, beating Cray Wanderers in the semi-final to play either Maidstone or Bromley in the final.
Some of these girls have already signed up to register their interest in the new Dartford Girls’ Academy that will hopefully get underway in September.
We’ve also had some of the Under-16 boys meet with Dartford Academy Manager Ben Greenhalgh about joining the boys’ Academy next season.
We are really excited about both of these teams, because we want to see real pathways to the Academies, not only from our JPL teams, but our grassroots teams, also.
My Under-10 team have made it to the Selkent Cup Final, this is the fourth year in a row the Whites have managed this – a great feat.
The Under-13 Girls are also through to the quarter finals of the Tina Marshall League Cup.
It was great to see so many of our junior player section players attend the Dartford first team match against Billericay a week ago. We hope they will come again to the next home match and bring some of their friends!
