New Report On Matthew Slater’s Role On Patriots Coaching Staff

It doesn’t seem like Matthew Slater will be returning for another season on the Patriots coaching staff.

Slater, who played 16 seasons for Bill Belichick’s Patriots, served as an assistant to former head coach Jerod Mayo during the 2024 campaign. ESPN’s Mike Reiss on Sunday reported Slater’s position “didn’t carry over” under the new regime.

Reiss did not outright say Slater would not be on Mike Vrabel’s staff, but all signs point to it trending in such direction.

Vrabel has made wholesale changes since he was hired Jan. 12.

A few holdovers include special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer, special teams assistant Tom Quinn and Ben McAdoo, who is expected to serve as a defensive coach given his experience working with the offense, according to multiple reports.
