Tottenham enquired about Olivier Boscagli in January transfer window
Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed two centre-backs Tottenham enquired about earlier in the January transfer window, including PSV Eindhoven’s Olivier Boscagli.
Tottenham finally sign a new centre-back
Coming into January, many Spurs fans would have felt that signing a centre-back should be the club’s top priority, given the injuries that the Lilywhites were dealing with at the back.
However, since then, Ben Davies has returned to action, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are now back in training, with the picture thus looking much rosier for Spurs.
Fortunately, the Lilywhites still got one key piece of business over the line in the dying days of the window, signing Kevin Danso from RC Lens on a loan with a purchase clause.
Tottenham enquired about Olivier Boscagli and David Hancko
Lyall Thomas revealed that Tottenham enquired about the availability of two experienced left-sided centre-backs over the past month, both of whom play in the Eredivisie.
One of those two names is not new, with reports over the last few days linking Feyenoord’s David Hancko with a late move to Spurs.
Thomas explained that the North London club had enquired about the availability of one PSV Eindhoven’s Olivier Boscagli.
The Frenchman is extremely versatile, being capable of featuring at centre-back, at left-back and as a number six, but based on the Sky Journalist’s update, it does not appear that Spurs’ interest went beyond the exploratory stage.
However, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham could still push for a second new centre-back signing before the winter window clams shut – so watch this space.
Tottenham need a new left-back
With Ben Davies and Micky van de Ven at Postecoglou’s disposal and with Archie Gray showing that he can do a job in the heart of the defence, one can argue that a left centre-back is no longer a priority. Signing a right-footed Kevin Danso would tend to support that hypothesis.
A new left-back would be much more useful for the squad, given that Destiny Udogie is currently out injured. Signing a left-back would also allow Djed Spence to be used in rotation with Pedro Porro on the right side, thus freeing up Gray to be used as a midfield option.
It has been suggested over recent days that Tottenham are now prioritising signing a forward before the February 3 deadline.
