Ex-Celtic Paul Pierce Calls Out Lakers After Trade For Luka Doncic

The Lakers made a blockbuster move that, on paper, could help the organization both now and in the future.

Paul Pierce, however, didn’t believe Los Angeles did well for itself in arguably the most shocking trade in NBA history.

The Lakers acquired Luka Doncic from the Mavericks in a seismic swap that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas. The Purple and Gold clearly view Doncic as a potential long-term face of the franchise, but they also seemingly believe the 25-year-old can pair well with current organizational centerpiece LeBron James.

But Pierce doesn’t see James and Doncic fitting together since “both need the ball too much.” The Boston Celtics legend also doesn’t view Doncic as next up in the long line of generational Lakers.

“He not the superstar LA needs,” Pierce posted to X. “Doesn’t fit the mold (of) Magic, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron — just saying tho. Bad Move.”

Los Angeles probably isn’t done making moves, as it needs to find a new rim protector with Davis now out of the picture. But Pierce is thinking even bigger for the Lakers, who The Truth believes should trade James and his son, Bronny, to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Pierce thinks moving those two and building around Doncic is “the only way to save the Lakers.”

It’s tough to imagine LA will heed Pierce’s advice, but Saturday night was a reminder that we should always expect the unexpected in the NBA.
