Tottenham eyeing 18-year-old Sverre Nypan

Tottenham secured the services of one of the most highly rated young Swedish midfielders last year by swooping for Lucas Bergvall, who has shown plenty of promise since his switch to the North London club.

It emerged a few days ago that Tottenham have set their sights on another young Scandinavian midfielder, with the club alleged to be plotting a move for Norwegian prodigy Sverre Nypan.

However, it was explained that Tottenham are not the only ones eyeing the Rosenborg starlet, who is also on the radars of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Marseille, and Ajax.

Have Arsenal moved into pole position for Sverre Nypan?

A report in The Guardian has now revealed that there have been new developments in the race for Nypan’s signature, with Arsenal among those to have entered the equation.

The report mentions that Spurs and Aston Villa are still continuing to circle over the versatile midfielder, who can operate in a box-to-box role or as an attacking midfielder.

However, it is explained that the Gunners have now held ‘talks’ over a deal for the Norway Under-21 midfielder and are ‘hopeful’ of securing his services before the February 3 deadline.

Nypan is expected to cost around £10m up front, although Rosenborg are being backed to demand significant add-ons as part of the deal.

Spurs fans may prefer experienced additions

A lot of Tottenham supporters already appear to have lost patience with the club’s transfer policy of prioritising young, up-and-coming talent, with fans wanting to see Spurs sign readymade stars.

However, the important thing to remember is that it is not an either/or situation. There is no doubt that the squad needs experience but the strategy of signing young talent has worked for the club.

Pape Sarr, Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence, and more recently Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have all proved smart acquisitions, and it is thus not surprising that the club are continuing with their approach of signing rough diamonds.
