Tottenham ‘sounding out’ 21-year-old midfielder over late switch

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned their attention towards a rising Ligue 1 star as they scramble to get some deals over the line in the final days of the January window.

Spurs reportedly looking for a late midfield addition

Over recent days, a number of outlets have suggested that Tottenham’s top priority in the final days of the transfer window is to add a forward to their squad while signing a centre-back is the club’s secondary priority.

However, it has now emerged that the Lilywhites are also looking to strengthen in the middle of the park before the February 4 deadline.

According to a new update from GiveMeSport, Tottenham have turned their attention to France and have set their sights on a versatile, young midfielder, who is quickly making a name for himself in Ligue 1.

Tottenham have reached out to Andy Diouf

The report primarily focuses on Spurs’ pursuit of Angel Gomes and the complications that the club would face in getting a deal for the Englishman over the line. However, it is revealed that the Premier League side are also doing the groundwork to sign a Lens starlet.

The player in question is Andy Diouf, who has emerged as one of the best young midfielders in French football over the last 18 months.

The 21-year-old is an all-action midfielder, not too dissimilar to Pape Sarr, and has featured in a number of roles, including as a number six, a box-to-box role and as an attacking number eight.

GiveMeSport say that Tottenham have now ‘sounded out’ the Lens man over a late move to N17 before the window slams shut.

The report adds that there is ‘still optimism’ at Spurs that a signing will be made before the deadline, but it is unclear if they are referring to Diouf.

Can Spurs push through a late deal for Andy Diouf?

This is not the first we have heard of Tottenham’s interest in Diouf, with TBR Football reporting at the start of this month that the youngster is one of the names on the Lilywhites’ radar.

However, at the time, it was explained that Spurs are facing plenty of competition for the 21-year-old, including from Premier League rivals, Crystal Palace.

The update also suggested that Lens are reluctant to part ways with the France Under-21 international mid-season. It remains to be seen if the Ligue 1 club’s stance on the midfielder has changed since then.
