Former Red Sox Coach Lands Skipper Role In Double-A

Former Boston Red Sox first base coach Andy Fox landed a new gig within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for the 2025 baseball season.

He will be the new skipper of Pittsburgh’s Double-A affiliate in Altoona, the Pirates announced on Friday.

Fox joined the Red Sox major league staff under manager Alex Cora as the team’s infield coordinator for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, then served as the team’s first base coach during the 2024 season.

The two-time World Series champion was named the 16th manager in franchise history, replacing Robby Hammock, who left the Pirates organization after one season to join the San Diego Padres staff.

Fox, who played nine MLB seasons with the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Florida Marlins, Montreal Expos and Texas Rangers, will lead a refreshed Curve coaching staff, with only one holdover from the previous season — bench coach Gary Green. Pitching coach Matt Ford joins the team for his 12th season as an instructor in the Pirates minor league system and hitting coaches Scott Seabol and Casey Harms join Fox’s staff after serving at the lower levels of the Pirates minor league system in 2024.

The Red Sox finalized their coaching staff for the 2025 season in November. They retained most of Cora’s staff from 2024 and made a few new additions, including new first base coach José Flores.
