Alex Bregman Rumors: Intriguing Update On Contract Offers
Alex Bregman seems willing to wait things out until he receives an offer he feels he deserves.
The Houston Astros reportedly have their six-year, $156 million offer on the table. However, the two-time World Series champion isn’t inclined to accept it since it would be a decrease in salary from what he earned last year. Other teams reportedly submitted multi-year deals, and the Boston Red Sox are focused on a particular detail for Bregman’s contract.
Amid those rumors, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported Friday that Breman received a “lucrative” six-year offer from a team that “may not be high on his list.” The top MLB insider added that the offer included an opt-out after the first year.
The Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers are the other two suitors that have been linked to Bregman. Could one of those teams be the one that Heyman was referring to?
Bregman reportedly is interested in returning to Houston but at the right price. It’s not clear where the Red Sox are in the pecking order of the sweepstakes. Alex Cora praised Bregman multiple times, so it can only be assumed that they have a good relationship. The 30-year-old’s bat plays well at Fenway Park, so he might view Boston very highly.
However, as Bregman continues to wait things out, teams will continue to make pushes to try to convince him that they are a worthy destination.
