Ange Postecoglou reveals why he wants to keep Dane Scarlett at Tottenham
It was a night to remember for Dane Scarlett, who marked his return to Tottenham Hotspur with a crucial goal, but the young forward knows this is just the beginning as he aims to establish himself under Ange Postecoglou following a series of loan spells.
Tottenham’s academy stars shine in Europa League victory
Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 victory over IF Elfsborg in the Europa League was not just about progression to the next round; it was a showcase of the club’s academy talent as Dane Scarlett, Oyindamola Ajayi and Mikey Moore all found the net in a win that ensured Spurs secured automatic qualification as they avoided the perilous playoff round.
One man who stood out on Thursday night was Scarlett, a player who spent the first half of the season on loan at Oxford United.
He returned to the club in January after scoring four goals in 20 Championship appearances and in his first cameo off the bench, he opened the scoring against IF Elfsborg.
Dane Scarlett reflects on long-awaited Tottenham goal
For Dane Scarlett, this was more than just a goal; it was a moment he had been waiting for, a chance to prove he belongs in the first-team set-up after enduring a challenging few years of loan spells.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, the young forward expressed his delight at finally getting on the scoresheet for Spurs, sharing his thoughts on his development and the hard work he has put in to reach this stage.
He said: “It was amazing. I have been waiting for that moment for a long time. I have been on loan and experienced men’s football. I feel really good now. Ready to kick on. Very happy.
“I have just been training hard with a clear mind and waiting for the opportunity. Today it came and I am just grateful that the team won.”
Will Tottenham loan Dane Scarlett out again?
While the 20-year-old has made an early impact since returning to the club, his competitive appearance vs Elfsborg does mean that he is ineligible for another loan move this season.
Ange Postecoglou has already addressed the matter, explaining the club’s decision to recall Scarlett from Oxford United and what the future could hold.
Speaking to football.london, the Tottenham manager said: “We had a look at his situation. He has had a couple of disappointing loans. I think sending him out again without any sort of real prospect of him developing, we just felt let’s keep him training with us and give him an opportunity to train with us and play with us and see how it goes.”
