Tottenham receive Mathys Tel transfer boost from strange Saudi source
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Mathys Tel has seemingly become the saga of the transfer window, and now we have received an update from an unexpected source.
Mathys Tel is yet to make a decision on his next destination
Tottenham have done all they can to secure Tel’s services, having reportedly agreed to pay €60m (£50.1m) to Bayern Munich for the 19-year-old’s transfer.
However, the player is still yet to make a final decision on his future, with Spurs facing a nervous wait as we enter the final days of the window.
Tottenham supporters have seen a number of high-profile moves fall through in the latter stages of transfer windows over the years, and they will be collectively worrying about Tel now too.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now revealed that Al-Ahli are interested in signing Mathys Tel this month too, however, a move is not on the cards. Interestingly, the Saudis expect Tel to join either Tottenham or Aston Villa. There is no mention of Manchester United.
Plettenberg reported earlier today that Manchester United are ‘definitely still in the race’ and are hoping to sign the teenager on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline.
It is said that Tel prefers a loan move over a permanent Bayern Munich exit, which is why he is in two minds about accepting Spurs’ transfer offer. Plettenberg added that Ange Postecoglou and co are ‘pushing for a decision’ from the teenager.
Will Tottenham have Mathys Tel alternatives in mind?
Tottenham are unlikely to have identified Tel as their top target ahead of the window as it only became clear over the last few days that the pacy wide-man wanted to leave the Allianz Arena.
One would hope that the Lilywhites thus have a list of alternative forwards in mind should the Bayern man decide that he does not want to come to N17.
Reports over recent days have strongly linked Tottenham with a move for Tyler Dibling, while AC Milan’s Noah Okafor has been painted as a Mathys Tel alternative for Spurs.
The worst thing that can happen to Tottenham is for this saga to drag on a couple of more days before the transfer collapses, thus leaving the club with no time to pivot to a different target.
One can understand why Spurs are pushing the player to make a final decision, and the club might have to turn their attention elsewhere if they do not receive a green light from the France Under-21 international by the end of today.
