Vincent Kompany addresses Mathys Tel situation after Spurs agree fee
The nervous wait of Spurs fans is set to continue after Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany and director Max Eberl have made some interesting comments regarding Mathys Tel and his proposed move to Tottenham.
Spurs waiting on a decision from Mathys Tel
It appears that Spurs are determined to secure the service of Tel before Monday’s transfer deadline and have done their part to make the transfer a reality.
It was widely reported yesterday that Tottenham agreed a fee of €60m (£50.1m) with Bayern for the permanent transfer of winger, with the teenager now considering his options before making a final decision.
Many Tottenham fans have been refreshing their social media feeds regularly over the last 24 hours, hoping for a breakthrough in the deal, but it would appear that they might have to wait a little bit longer.
Bayern head coach and director make Mathys Tel admission
Based on the comments made by Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl, it seems like Tel‘s move to Tottenham – or any other club – is still some way away from materialising.
The winger appeared to wave goodbye to the Bayern fans after their 3-1 Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, but Kompany has now suggested that the youngster could be involved again in his plans this weekend.
When asked if the 19-year-old will be part of the squad to face Holstein Kiel on Saturday, the Belgian coach said (via Florian Plettenberg): “He is still a Bayern player. Until the last moment, it’s important that he is ready to play. If something happens, then it happens.”
Bayern director Max Eberl then chimed in: “That’s exactly right. He is a Bayern player. There is no new update. As of now, he will be hunting for goals for us tomorrow.”
Vincent Kompany’s choice of words are revealing
Kompany’s words certainly do not suggest that he expects Tel to remain at the club beyond Monday. The fact that the Man City legend used the phrase “until the last moment” suggests that he expects him to depart.
However, that does not mean that the teenager is on his way to Tottenham as he will have plenty of offers to choose from.
Spurs seem to be well placed at the moment, but the longer the winger takes to make a final decision, the more worried Tottenham fans should be as it potentially suggests that the player is not too keen on a move to N17.
