Tom Brady Reveals Another New Wrinkle In Patriots Super Bowl Story
Tom Brady won his fourth Super Bowl ring and third Super Bowl MVP honors during an instant classic win over the Seattle Seahawks to close out the 2014 season.
Super Bowl XLIX featured a classic moment when Malcolm Butler saved the game with an interception at the goal line. Former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia shared more details from that play on Julian Edelman’s “Games With Names” podcast.
Brady also had details to reveal from the game, which celebrates its 10th anniversary Saturday, during an appearance on FS1’s “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd.
Red zone offense defined that game for New England. After an early interception, Brady tossed three of his four touchdowns within the red zone to boost the Patriots over the legendary Seattle Seahawks defense.
“We’re playing the Legion of Boom and it’s Friday night before the Super Bowl,” Brady recalled. “Of course, we had 11 or 12 days to prepare. I come back from dinner, it’s probably about nine o’clock and I wasn’t feeling great about the red area package we had.”
Brady immediately went to Josh McDaniels to discuss a plan to better attack the zone defense Seattle favored in the short field. The Patriots liked play-action looks to free up space. New England capitalized on the new installments with touchdown receptions for Brandon “JoJo” LaFell and Danny Amendola.
“We installed three plays on Friday night after two weeks of preparation and all the practices done,” Brady said. “… I like to use every minute of prep going up into those games because they’re the hardest ones to win.”
Brady won three more Super Bowls after that memorable Patriots win and will broadcast Super Bowl LIX with FOX on Feb. 9.
