Ex-Patriots QB Compares Patrick Mahomes To Two NBA Legends

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is often compared to New England Patriots legend Tom Brady.

As Mahomes gets set to compete for his fourth Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton took the GOAT debate to a whole different level.

On the latest episode of “4th and 1 with Cam Newton,” the former NFL MVP discussed why Mahomes is the Michael Jordan of the NFL.

“Hell (expletive) yes,” Newton said. “I may lie, you may lie, the numbers ain’t gonna lie.”

Newton compared Mahomes’s and Brady’s first seven seasons as starters in the league. Both won three championships. However, Mahomes has won five AFC Championships, while Brady has four. Brady posted a 14-3 playoff record compared to Mahomes’ 17-3.

“Every year, Patrick Mahomes has been a starting quarterback, he’s only seen AFC Championships,” Newton said. “It’s hard to even fathom. You gotta really say this is a once-in-a-lifetime type of career. At this rate, this is a Bill Russell record.”

Mahomes has already accumulated 32,352 passing yards and 245 passing touchdowns, but he still has a long way to go to catch up to Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl champion holds the all-time records in passing yards (89,214) and passing touchdowns (649).
