MLB Insider Floats Red Sox Reunion For More Pitching Depth

The Boston Red Sox nicely filled out their starting rotation and have comfortable depth ready to rock at Triple-A Worcester.

Newcomers Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler join the base of the Red Sox rotation in Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford. Lucas Giolito returns from elbow surgery while Hunter Dobbins, Quinn Priester and Richard Fitts can all jump up to Boston for a spot start.

You can never have too much pitching depth, but it’s hard to imagine the Red Sox adding another starter given their other needs. Although, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi floated a potential Boston reunion with Nick Pivetta.

“There are those in the industry who believe the best fit for him right now is going back to Boston,” Morosi shared on “Hot Stove” Wednesday.

Morosi also tied Pivetta to the New York Mets after they added Clay Holmes and Sean Manea for their rotation. The key detail of his market is that Pivetta is attached to draft compensation since the Red Sox extended him a qualifying offer at the start of the offseason.

Pivetta made 27 appearances in 2024 with a 4.12 ERA. He enters his age-32 season looking to improve his stock, whether that’s with the Red Sox or not.
