Eliot Wolf Throws Shade At Jerod Mayo With Praise Of New Patriots Regime

The Patriots have a new power structure, and Eliot Wolf is one of the biggest fans of the changes.

New England’s executive vice president of player personnel seemed to reveal in a Senior Bowl video Tuesday that head coach Mike Vrabel would be calling the shots. It’s a step down from his de facto general manager role last season. However, he doesn’t sound too perturbed about the new set-up.

“It’s been awesome. We’re getting to know each other a little bit,” Wolf told Evan Lazar of Patriots.com at the Senior Bowl. “The thing I like about it, it’s very focused and intentional. (Coach Vrabel) knows exactly what he wants. He’s done it before. He knows ball. He can talk through every position really well. He’s already detailed about what he’s looking for, so that makes our jobs easier.”

Wolf’s comments stood out given the reports of how much dysfunction there was when Jerod Mayo was head coach. It painted a picture of how unprepared the 38-year-old was, and it affected the Patriots. Wolf also told FOX Sports near the end of the season how disappointed he was to not see players develop the way he would have liked. His comments from the Senior Bowl further hinted at some tension between Mayo and the front office.

So while Vrabel calls the shots along with his loyal front office confidants Ryan Cowden and John Streicher, it seems like Wolf is happy with his role in New England and confident in the new regime’s ability to develop players.
