Newly Traded Pitcher Makes Recruiting Pitch To Red Sox Target

The baseball world awaits Alex Bregman to decide which team he wants to play for, and a former teammate tried to recruit the rumored Boston Red Sox target.

Ryan Pressly introduced himself to Cubs fans Wednesday. Chicago acquired the All-Star relief pitcher from the Houston Astros. The North Siders made the deal amid rumors that they are among multiple teams interested in Bregman, which was brought up to Pressly in his virtual news conference.

“Obviously, I would love to play with Bregy,” Pressly told reporters, per Marquee Sports Network. “He’s one of those guys that you have in the clubhouse that, man, all he wants to do is win. He doesn’t care where he’s at, and that’s the one thing I love about him. He’s the heartbeat of that clubhouse in Houston. Having him come to Chicago would be an amazing thing for us.

“However, I don’t know exactly what’s going on in his camp. Me personally, I would love to play with him again just because he’s a solid dude and a great teammate. His kid plays with my kids. Our wives are close friends. Having another familiar face on the team would be super helpful. That left side of the infield would be really good. But I think we’re still really good with or without him signing. I just would love to have him with us in Wrigley.”

It’s unknown if the Cubs would be interested in spending the money to sign Bregman after making trades for Kyle Tucker and Pressly. Ironically, those trades opened an easier path for the Astros to bring back the two-time World Series champion.

The Red Sox and Detroit Tigers remain in the mix for the 30-year-old’s services, and it’s up to Bregman to wait out his options with spring training on the horizon.
